Online Voting - Volumes

Percentage of proxies received since 2004

Since the inception of online voting, volumes have progressively increased year on year. Despite the fact that each year paper votes are consistently shown to be the preferred method of voting, in 2020 we saw a shift in this trend, noting online votes surpassing paper votes for the very first time. Online voting statistics from 2021 show that the numbers were down by 4.57% as opposed to 55.36% in 2020.

This was still notably higher than previous years, in part due to the temporary relief provided by the government for electronic document execution where some companies didn’t send a hard copy proxy form to their holders. The S&P/ASX 200 & 201+ saw an increase in online voting from 2020.
